City Council Details

Norton City Council is comprised of seven members, one elected from each of the four Wards of the City, with an additional three elected as At-Large members. These Council members constitute the legislative body of the City; authorizing the appropriation of funding, construction of public improvements, and legislation required for the preservation of public peace, health, welfare, or safety of the citizens who reside in the City of Norton. Public Participation in Meetings

City Council meetings are designed primarily to act on legislation that has been researched and deliberated in Committee. Public input best occurs at the Committee level. Communications from the public are encouraged and will be granted five minutes to speak on matters now pending before Council or Committee. There are "Public Comment Instructions" at the public podium in Council Chambers, which must be completed five minutes prior to the meeting start. View or download the Council Rules.


Clerk of Council

The Clerk of Council position, is a full-time appointed position and is responsible for carrying out the administrative functions of City Council. These administrative functions include keeping and maintaining an accurate record of the proceedings of Council and of its Committees, retaining and preserving all laws and ordinances of the City as well as other duties that Council may require.

Norton City Council has seven different work-session Committees: Finance, Personnel / Rules, Planning /Economic Development, Property / Mines, Safety, Service, and Utilities. Each Council member is required to serve as the Chair of one of these Committees.
