Emergency and Non-Emergency Calls

9-1-1 is the emergency telephone number system that links to the appropriate emergency service – Police, Fire, or Emergency Medical Service (EMS). An emergency is a situation where the safety of people or property is at risk, for example a fire or a medical emergency. It is not an emergency when the situation is not dangerous and immediate action is not necessary.

The 9-1-1 telephone system has an Automatic Location Identification System and an Automatic Number Identification System (ANI / ALI) that lets the dispatcher know the address and telephone number you are calling from. However, cellular calls will not provide ANI / ALI information to the dispatcher.

When calling 9-1-1, be prepared to give the following information:

  • Name, address and telephone number.
  • The nature of the emergency.
  • An exact location of where the emergency has occurred.

If you have a non-emergency, but still need assistance, please call 330-825-2491 to reach the Norton Dispatch Center.
